Danny Glover has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
The actor gave an update on his health on Wednesday morning’s “Today” segment with Lester Holt.
“In a way, I was able to hold on,” the “Lethal Weapon” star, who was diagnosed shortly after winning an honorary Oscar in 2022, said in a pre-recorded roundtable.
But the 79-year-old admitted: “I am sure that as things develop, things will be different and will change.”
He praised his family for “absolutely… getting (him) back.”
Glover’s daughter Mandisa also spoke to Holt, 67, and said it was “really important” for her father to “control his own story, the story of his life.”
She added, “That’s really important. And now is the time. What better time than now for him to talk about himself? It’s important because people sometimes ask questions. I don’t want to be a dishonest person and say, ‘Oh, yeah, everything’s fine. Everything’s great.'”
Elsewhere in the interview, Glover reflected on his legendary career, calling “Places in the Heart” with Sally Fields his “favorite” project of all.
His legacy focuses on teaching young people about responsibility.
The Emmy nominee explained, “Justice is our collective responsibility. One thing I learned from my parents most of my life is the ability of people to change on their own. They become the architects of change.”
Glover has been transparent about other health struggles in his past, including his battle with epilepsy.
Grover had his first attack at age 15 and spent the next 20 years treating his illness with medication.
But, according to BlackDoctor, he “started to recognize when it happened,” he wrote in a blog post.
“I could be anywhere and say, ‘Something is happening. Please grab me. Please hold me. I’m about to have a seizure,'” the Grammy nominee said.
He once felt a seizure coming on during a play and recalled saying to himself over and over again backstage, “I’m not going to have this seizure.”
“Each time, I got a little stronger and my symptoms started to subside until I was ready to go on stage,” Glover recalled.
He has not had a seizure since he was 35 years old.
