L7 bassist Jennifer Finch is battling an “aggressive brain tumor” and “may have better days ahead.”
The rocker’s bandmates revealed her diagnosis on Monday while launching a GoFundMe to support the 59-year-old, who has undergone “multiple surgeries and severe complications.”
“Jennifer currently requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation, and professional support at home,” friends said in explaining their $350,000 goal.
The fundraiser’s description included a photo of the punk legend smiling in the hospital, showing off the scars from a horrific brain surgery.
Finch initially thought that “treatment, including a full course of radiation therapy, would allow her to return to some degree of normal life,” but she experienced “a series of difficult setbacks” and “significant physical limitations.”
Her loved ones added, “The level of care Jennifer requires is beyond what friends and family can safely provide 24 hours a day.”
The statement acknowledged the “difficult reality” of Ms Finch’s condition, adding: “We are asking for your help to make the time she spends with her friends, family and fans as comfortable, meaningful and loving as possible.”
“The cost of providing Jennifer with the care she needs is significant, but it gives her the best chance of meaningful improvement while maintaining as much comfort, dignity and independence as possible.”
Many celebrities have donated to Finch’s fight against cancer, including “Yellowjackets” star Melanie Lynskey.
As of Wednesday morning, that amount was nearly $300,000.
The band later released an impassioned statement on Instagram, writing: “We are overwhelmed and grateful for the love, generosity and support from around the world for our friend and bandmate Jennifer Finch.”
Finch, who dated Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl in the early 1990s, became a founding member of L7 in 1986.
She left the group ten years later, five years before L7 finally disbanded.
The band, including Finch, reunited in 2014, and she was scheduled to take part in the “Last Hurray” tour this year.
Notably, this tour was planned when Finch was “healthy and energetic.”
