It has been announced that Kunchacko Boban and Lijomol Jose’s psychological thriller, produced by India’s T-Series & Panorama Studios, will be titled ‘Ammadam’, which means ‘enthusiasm’ in Malayalam. Producers announced the film’s first look poster and August release date on Saturday.
Directed by Kiran Das, Ammadam marks the feature directorial debut of one of Malayalam film’s most eminent editors. Das won the Kerala State Film Award for ‘Ishq’ and has worked on a number of acclaimed titles such as ‘Thondimtarum Driksakshiyum’, ‘George’, ‘Moothon’, ‘Romancham’, ‘Rorschach’, ‘Joseph’ and ‘Era Veezha Punchira’.
The screenplay is by National Film Award-winning writer Shahi Kabir, who previously worked with Boban on Officer on Duty and is also known for Nayat and Joseph. The story centers on a police constable whose already tense home life becomes even more unstable when he reopens a cold case with decidedly supernatural aspects, and whose grip on reality loosens as he gets deeper into the investigation.
“‘Madam’ is a work that depicts the frenzy that quietly grows within a human being. My character is torn between responsibility and suspicion, and as the incident becomes clear, his world begins to change in an unexpected direction. It is a role that requires emotional intensity and restraint at the same time,” said Boban.
“What excited me about ‘Madam’ is the tension at its core, as a simple police officer reopens a forgotten case that slowly begins to erode his life and sanity. At Panorama Studios, we believe in backing stories that challenge and engage viewers. ‘Madam’ is just that. Captivating, unpredictable and rooted in strong performances,” said Abhishek Pathak, producer at Panorama Studios.
“‘Anmadam’ is the kind of story that stays with you. It is layered with psychological intensity and an emotionally rooted narrative. The film’s unique blend of suspense and human conflict, set against a fascinating investigative backdrop, makes it a captivating cinematic experience,” said Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, T-Series.
“With Unmadam, we wanted to create an experience where audiences are constantly asking what is true and what is not. This is a film that builds tension in a very grounded way. By collaborating with T-Series on this slate, we are able to amplify these stories and bring them to a wider audience,” said Kumar Mangat Pathak, Chairman, Panorama Studios.
The music is by Mujeeb Majeed (Kishkinda Kandam), the action is by Kalai Kingson (Marco, Brahmayugam), and the cinematographer is Arjun Seth. Gulshan Kumar and Bhushan Kumar will be present alongside Panorama Studio. It is co-produced by Ram Mirchandani and Rajesh Menon and creatively produced by Abhinav Mehrotra.
“Unmadham” is part of a joint Malayalam project between T-Series and Panorama Studios, which released “Anomie” starring Rehman and Bhavana earlier this year, and “Tikitaka” starring Asif Ali is also in the pipeline. Panorama Studios has also entered into a Malayalam co-production partnership with actor and producer Nivin Pauly, and a distribution partnership with Century Films and international distributor Firth Films. “Anmadam” will be released nationwide on August 7th.
