Dr. Sales revealed that the Indian crime drama “Search: Naina Murder” is scheduled to premiere on Jiohotstar next month and is based on the Danish television phenomenon (“Forbrydelsen”), originally produced by Dr. Drama. This will make it the fourth international version of the acclaimed Nordic Noir series.

Directed by Rohan Sippy and starring Konkona Sen Sharma (“Mumbai Diaries”), Surya Sharma (“Hostage”), Shiv Panditt (“Shaitaan”), and Dhruv Sehgal (“Litth Things”), the series consists of six episodes created by Entertainment Entertainment and Highgate Entertainme.

The original Danish series, created by Søren Sveistrup, premiered in DR1 in 2007, became a cultural milestone and helped establish the international Nordic Noir movement. The show followed Detective Sarah Land, played by Sophie Grabol, and was widely recognized for her unique knitwear and tenacious research methods. Running over three seasons, the series was notable for its real-time narrative approach and a combination of criminal investigations and political themes. It won BAFTA among other honors and was broadcast in over 100 regions around the world.

“Every time a ‘kill’ is adapted, it feels like an extraordinary honor,” Sveistrup says. “It serves as a lasting reminder of the team’s extraordinary talent and vision behind the original. We created a deeply compelling story that resonates with millions of people around the world, placing Danish TV dramas on the international stage in ways that exceeded all expectations.

Previous adaptations include the four-season AMC series, which aired between 2011 and 2014 and was a hugely successful in its own right, the Russian adaptation in 2016, and “Monataf Khater,” which was released in 2022 on Shahid VIP for viewers in the Middle East and North Africa.

DR Sales continues to expand its scripted portfolio, receiving Greenlight from “Cry Wolf” FX, with additional format transactions expected to be announced.

The show will be streaming on Jiohotstar from October 10th.
