Kelly Clarkson defended her right to remain single at her recent Las Vegas residency show.
“People say, ‘Oh, why are you single?’ And I said, ‘First of all, there are a lot of people here who make singles look really good,'” the talk show host told the crowd Friday at his “Studio Sessions” show at Caesars Palace, according to social media footage.
“If you don’t understand what I mean, it’s like looking at a relationship and thinking, ‘I’m so happy to be able to go home by myself.'”
She added jokingly: “You know what’s not going on in my house? That’s not true.”
“If you’re in a relationship, I think the hardest thing is to keep that passion and keep dating,” the “American Idol” winner continued. “Yet it creates a magical atmosphere rather than monotony.”
The Miss Independent hitmaker, 44, has kept her dating life private since finalizing her divorce from her late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in 2022.
Blackstock, who had daughter River Rose, 12, and son Remy, 10, with the pop star, died in August 2025 at the age of 48 after battling melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer.
She returned to “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in September of the same year, but in January, Page Six reported that the Grammy-winning songstress was exiting the daytime talk show.
The mother of two confirmed in February that the series was coming to an end, writing in a social media statement that “there have been so many great moments and shows over the past seven seasons.”
She added that she was “forever grateful and honored to have worked with the best band and crew one could ask for,” and thanked “all the talented and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us.”
Clarkson wrote that leaving “was not an easy decision” and that prioritizing her children felt “necessary and right for the next chapter of our lives.”
The show is scheduled to air its final episode this fall, and her summer stay in Las Vegas will continue until August 15th.
Clarkson also released a new single, “I’d Be Lyin’,” on July 17th.
Before Blackstock’s death, Clarkson, who filed for divorce from the producer in 2020 and saw the legal issues resolved in 2022, spoke out about why she wasn’t dating.
“Dating can be a very difficult thing. That’s why I don’t date,” she told a Las Vegas audience in July 2025.
Clarkson said at the time that dating was “just so hard” and that being in the “spotlight” could become a “dumpster fire.”
