JB Smoove has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Fox Entertainment Studios for unscripted content.
Under the agreement, Smoove will serve as executive producer and creative collaborator on programming across a variety of formats and genres. Smoove’s Alternative Side Productions will also executive produce all projects produced under the deal, with Rick Dorfman and Miles Gross also serving as EPs.
Smoove knows a thing or two about being unscripted. A veteran stand-up comic and improv performer, his breakout role was playing Larry David’s sidekick and housemate Leon Black in the comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm, which was famously loosely synopsized rather than scripted.
“Let me tell you something…unscripted is where the magic really happens,” Smoove said in a statement. “You can’t plan it. You can’t fake it. You just have to jump in and let it fly. That’s my lane! Partnering with Alison (Wallach) and the folks at Fox Entertainment Studios gives us the space to be passionate about ideas, find interesting things in real life, and bring some shows to the screen that people didn’t even know they needed yet. We’re going to have a lot of fun with this.”
“JB brings an unmistakable comedic voice and a fearless, spontaneous energy that makes him a natural fit for the unscripted genre,” said Wallach, head of unscripted programming at Fox Entertainment Studios. “Together with Rick, Miles, and the team at Alternative Side Productions, JB has a keen eye for original concepts and an ability to connect with audiences in ways that feel fresh, invigorating, and highly entertaining. We’re excited to build a slate that fully leverages that original perspective.”
Smoove’s credits also include “The Real Husbands of Hollywood,” “Mapleworth Murders,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” He is represented by Authentic Talent and Literary Management, Inc. UTA and attorney Roger Priakas.
