Happy birthday, Jack Nicholson!
The Oscar winner’s daughter Lorraine Nicholson celebrated his 89th birthday on Thursday by posting a rare photo of him on Instagram.
A photo posted to Lorraine’s Stories shows Jack smiling and clapping with Joni Mitchell sitting next to him. Lorraine didn’t say when the photo was taken, but simply wrote “¡¡89!!” on the photo. After posting a photo of a young Jack wearing a Coca-Cola shirt with the caption “89?”
Lorraine last posted a photo of her father in January, also on Instagram.
The “Terms of Endearment” actor’s last public appearance was in February 2025, when he appeared alongside Lorraine on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” 50th Anniversary TV special. He received loud applause while introducing Adam Sandler’s musical performance.
Lorraine is one of Jack’s six children. Her mother is actress Rebecca Broussard, with whom she has a son, Smile 2 star Ray Nicholson.
Jack made his acting debut in 1958 in Roger Corman’s Cry Baby Killer. What followed was a prolific career spanning over 50 years. He has won an Oscar, three BAFTAs, six Golden Globes, and a Grammy.
His last Oscar nomination was for Best Actor in 2003 for About Schmidt, and his last film was for a supporting role in James L. Brooks’ How Do You Know, co-starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson.
Nicholson received the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994, the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1999, and the Kennedy Center Honor Award in 2001.
He last attended the Oscars in 2013, where he won Best Picture with First Lady Michelle Obama.
