Local drama “It’s OK” maintained its top spot at the Chinese box office during the April 17-19 weekend, earning RMB 19.7 million ($2.9 million), according to data from Artisan Gateway.

Produced by China Film and directed by Yang Lina, the film stars Wen Qi and Qing Hailu and revolves around a young woman whose life is upended by the sudden arrival of her mother, who is preparing for emergency treatment. The cumulative production value reached $23.7 million.

Columbia Pictures’ “Project Hail Mary” rose to second place in its fifth weekend, earning $2.2 million for a total of $37.1 million.

The romantic drama “Nobody But You 2” debuted at No. 3, earning $2.1 million over its two-day opening weekend. Produced by Zhonlian Jinyi and directed by Chen Chen, the film serves as a sequel to the 2023 romance. The plot is that the protagonists hit it off, travel to the Daerang Mountains to heal old wounds and restore hope to their hometown.

Universal’s “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” rose to fourth place, adding $2 million for a total of $17.2 million.

Rounding out the top five was the horror thriller “The Cagged Butterfly,” which earned $1.9 million for a total of $10.6 million. Produced by Ultra Comedy, directed by Hao Han, and starring Li Meng, Liu Siwei, and Jiang Zhuojun. The story is set in the infamous Butterfly House villa. The story is about a physical therapist and a greedy schemer who move into a haunted mansion, only to find themselves haunted by strange happenings and a life-and-death game involving a woman in a red dress and a distorted, eyeless boy.

The frame continues an unusually slow period for the market, with an overall weekend gross of $17.8 million, one of the lowest grosses of the year.

Year-to-date sales in 2026 were $1.86 billion, a 49.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
