“Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire” has been renewed for a fourth season with the title “Queen of the Damned.” The update was announced at San Diego Comic-Con and comes ahead of Sunday’s “Vampire Lestat” Season 3 finale.
Series executive producers Mark Johnson and Hanna Moscovich, along with stars Jacob Anderson, Asad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, and Sheila Atim, took to the Comic-Con stage to discuss Lestat and announce its renewal. The new season is based on Rice’s third novel, Queen of the Damned. Moscovich will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Johnson and Lorin Jones.
“On Vampire Lestat, Mark, Lorin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the series’ passionate and devoted fans,” Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, said in a statement announcing the renewal. “We can’t wait to continue the journey of The Cursed Queen, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and see our established and beloved characters take on Akasha with their world and ours.”
“Vampire Lestat” is technically the third season of the “Interview with the Vampire” series, but the brand name was changed to indicate the animated adaptation of Rice’s second novel of the same name. Ambitious rock star Lestat (Sam Reid) is the focus of the third season, as he is interviewed for the film by journalist Daniel Molloy. His vulnerable confessions include detailed reminiscences about his first love, Nicola de Renfent (Joseph Potter), who became a vampire along with Lestat.
“Interview with the Vampire” will premiere in 2022 and will be the second film adaptation of Rice’s 1976 novel. This movie starring Tom Cruise first brought this story to life in 1994. To support Lestat’s path to rock stardom, the series produced 20 songs sung by Reed, including “Your Biggest Fan,” “All Fall Down,” and a cover of Billy Idol’s “Dancing with Myself.”
