Hulu’s “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” Heads to OC Hulu was scheduled to announce Wednesday that it has ordered a spinoff series, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County,” scheduled to air later this year.
The OC version is the first spin-off of “The Mormon Wife,” and has long been expected given the immense popularity of the original series. “It’s definitely possible to play out the secret lives of various other types of wives, but we want to be careful,” Disney’s head of alternative TV Rob Mills told Variety last year. “But certainly, this could be a franchise starter.”
The news, announced at Hulu’s “Get Real” unscripted event, comes amid controversy for “Mormon Housewives,” with production on Season 5 suspended several weeks ago amid a domestic violence investigation involving Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-girlfriend Dakota Mortensen. (Filming has recently resumed.)
Here’s the logline for the OC version: “A new group of dynamic young mothers in Orange County collide in a community where their beliefs are not just a religion, but their identity. Some defend their way of life and stand against modernity, while others embrace change and become a platform to disrupt the status quo. Scandals and secrets are exposed, facades crumble, and as this powerful, game-changing group, families and friendships on both sides of the battlefield are forever changed. #MomTok Influencers came together to build an answer to The Secret Life of a Mormon Wife: Orange County. ”
