Only Gabrielette Bechtel could walk down the aisle in tattered haute couture.
The 28-year-old model and musician married 1975 frontman Matti Healy on July 18 at Madonna’s former mansion, Castillo del Lago, in Los Angeles.
The bride wore three looks over the course of her wedding weekend, all designed by buzzy high-fashion brand Mattiere Fecares, who had just worn Zendaya’s outfit for the Odyssey press tour.
To celebrate the house’s first bridal commission, meaning “feces” in French, Gabrielette’s drop-waist white silk taffeta dress featured a hand-pleated bodice and triple bustle train. The edges of the fabric are treated with the brand’s signature désirée (French for “torn”) technique, giving it an intentionally tattered look.
She added a veil by legendary milliner Stephen Jones (pinned under a half-up Lydia Dietz-like honeycomb hairstyle) and white satin curve-heel pumps by Christian Louboutin and Matthière Fécard.
According to Vogue, Canadian designers Hannah Rose Dalton and Stephen Raj Bhaskaran also worked on the black dress, which was made from Gabrielette’s “old stuff” – a vintage Martin Margiela dress the bride already owned.
It was “loosely inspired” by the trio’s love for Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula and was worn as a pre-wedding look.
“Is bridal always white? Obviously not,” Gabrielette told Vogue. “Bridal is everything you want it to be. I’ve always loved black clothes and it felt right to repurpose this dress that I’ve had for so long.”
For the after-party, the social media star changed into a two-piece lamb leather suit with fur and matching desire tulle on the sleeves and hem of the pants.
She accessorized with a white satin riding hat created in collaboration with Stephen Jones and another pair of Christian Louboutin x Matthière Fécaret pumps.
Her three looks were narrowed down from 30 options presented by the designer and took more than four months to complete.
The deconstructed fashion that Gabrielette has loved for many years. At her bachelorette party last month, she wore a vintage Chanel tweed skirt suit with a undone hem.
And after a year of dating, Healy proposed with a black diamond ring instead of the traditional sparkler. The central stone is surrounded by a halo of white diamonds, and an expert tells Page Six Style that this dark gemstone “symbolizes power, grace, mystery, and strength.”
Black diamonds are not very expensive, but they are very rare.
“Additionally, black diamonds can also represent personal transformation, strength, and grounding,” one expert told us. “Many fans have noted that with Gabrielette, Matty seems like a new man, linking meanings of transformation and grounding.”
Now she is the one undergoing the transformation into Mrs. Matty Healy.
