“When I was a kid, I got bitten by a radioactive hillbilly and thought I was going to be Forrest Gump someday,” Whitmer-Thomas says in the trailer for her upcoming HBO comedy special, Terminal Crew of Dudes. This hour is filled with original songs, home videos, and heartfelt memories.
Also joined by bandmates Jeremy Ritchie, Clay Tatum, Bud Diaz, and brother Johnny McCann, the Alabama-born comic chronicles his chaotic youth, from talking skateboarding to ruining Benihana’s birthday party. The special will premiere on HBO on August 14 at 9 p.m.
“I got my first condom when I was 15 and bought a 48-count pack,” Thomas jokes in the trailer. “Do you know how depressing it is to throw away 47 condoms on your high school graduation day? It’s disgusting!”
“Thank you to everyone at HBO for bringing us another special, and to all of our friends who participated in it,” Thomas said in a statement. “I worked hard on it. I hope you like it. If you don’t, please leave it alone.”
Thomas co-directed the special with Clay Tatum and served as their executive producers along with Tim Robinson, Matthew Vaughn, Josh Kessler, Olivia Gerke, and Ramy Khatrib. Cinematographer: Moses Goldfarb.
Nina Rosenstein, HBO’s Executive Vice President of Late Night and Specials, added, “Whitmer has an uncanny ability to transform his personal experiences into hilarious, heartwarming, and universally relatable stories. His second stand-up special is a moving celebration of the beautiful chaos of friendship, family, and growing up, and we are thrilled to welcome him back to HBO to collaborate again.”
“Terminal Crew of Dudes” will be Thomas’ second special for HBO. His first film, The Golden One, was produced by Bo Burnham and A24. In addition to his stand-up and music career, he has also appeared in films such as “Weapons” and “Friendship.”
