“Predator: Badlands” director Dan Trachtenberg is developing an animated film “Freddy
Although “Freddy the 13th” sounds scary, the studio promises a “wholesome PG-rated” movie that will deliver “laughter for the whole family.” The story is about Uncle Freddy accidentally killing the Boogeyman and inheriting his powers, and a fun family trip turns into a nightmare.
“I’ve spent most of my career making movies that parents shouldn’t show their kids,” Trachtenberg wrote on Instagram. “Together with @supermercadocomics and @paramountpics, we’re excited to finally announce… can they…?”
The film is co-directed by Yehudi Mercado, author of the graphic novel of the same name. Trachtenberg, who will produce with Ben Rosenblatt, recently signed a three-year first-look deal with Paramount Pictures. Trachtenberg made his directorial debut with 2016’s “10 Cloverfield Lane,” and went on to direct 2022’s “Prey,” 2025’s animated “Predator: Killer of Killers” and live-action “Predator: Badlands.” On the small screen, he has directed episodes of “The Boys,” “The Lost Symbol,” and “Black Mirror.”
Paramount Animation announced Freddy XIII at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. The studio’s animation division, overseen by new president Jennifer Dodge, recently announced “Survivor,” a movie starring animal contestants, and “The Naughty List,” a Christmas adventure directed by Robert Rodriguez. Next up, Paramount Animation’s “PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie” will be released in August.
