Jimmy Fallon brings NBC’s “Tonight’s Show” to Detroit, a special episode and one of the few non-traditional broadcasts of the program he’s doing in the fall.

The late-night host recorded one “Tonight” episode at the Detroit Opera House on Sunday, September 14th, and airs on NBC on September 15th. Ford Motor Co., a longtime sponsor of “Tonight,” will support special broadcasts. The large automaker has been a supporter of the facility and its art missions for over 20 years.

Fallon is also taping a special “Tonight” broadcast aimed at broadcasting Sunday nights, following NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” and various affiliate marketing. These editions will air about once a month from September 21st. Matthew McConaughey and Eric Church act as guests.

This is the second year Fallon has taken on a special after-football broadcast. He also led the unique “Tonight’s Show” in Minneapolis in 2018, following the NBC broadcast of Super Bowl LII.

Other late-night hosts are offering custom versions of the program following special events. In 2024, CBS aired special editions of “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Later Later” following the Super Bowl LVIII network broadcast.

“Tonight’s Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is an executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Chris Miller and Gerald Bradford. The mirror acts as the showrunner for the program. In most cases, the “The Tonight Show” tape is in front of the Studio 6B live studio audience at 30 Rockefeller Center.
