Ex-girlfriends Emma Roberts and Evan Peters had a tense reunion on stage this week, years after Roberts was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence against Roberts in 2013.
The former co-stars made a rare joint appearance Wednesday at the Disney Advertising Upfront showcase to announce Paul Anthony Kelly’s appearance in Season 13 of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story.
Roberts, 35, wore a black strapless minidress decorated with red roses for the event. Peters, 39, was wearing a teal jacket over a white T-shirt and black pants.
The former couple were also joined on stage by “AHS” alums Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Angela Bassett.
But the ex-lovers also remained several feet apart when they took to the stage at New York City’s North Javits Center to help promote season 13 of the long-running horror FX horror anthology series, marking their first time working together since 2018.
A source told Page Six that there is no drama left between the exes. “Emma and Evan are very close,” they said.
The “We’re the Millers” star and the “X-Men” actor’s tumultuous relationship began in February 2012, when they met on the set of the comedy-drama “Adult World.”
Rumors that the two were dating began in July after they were photographed holding hands at a wedding, and they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 70th Golden Globe Awards in January 2013.
But five months later, in July 2013, Roberts was arrested following a domestic violence incident at a Montreal hotel.
The “Scream 4” star was released shortly afterward, but Peters, who reportedly suffered a nosebleed during the alleged incident, did not press charges.
At the time, representatives for the two men said in a statement: “This was an unfortunate incident and a misunderstanding.” “Mr. Roberts was released after questioning and the couple is working together to overcome this issue.”
Despite the domestic violence incident, Peters proposed to Roberts a year later, in January 2014.
The then-couple continued to work together, most notably on four seasons of “AHS,” starting with 2013’s “Coven,” followed by 2014’s “Freak Show,” 2017’s “Cult,” and 2019’s “Apocalypse.”
“It’s been amazing,” Peters gushed about working with Roberts in an interview with People magazine after the filming of Coven wrapped. “You’re on set and you’re in a city you don’t know much about. It’s nice to have your best friend there and go to dinner with them and check out what’s going on in the city.”
He continued, “On set, if I had a bad day or anything, I could go up to someone and talk to her and she’d be right there. It was great because I didn’t have to wait until after work.”
However, the two suddenly called off their engagement in June 2015.
A source said that after the couple broke up, “the two became estranged.” “We both had a lot of growing to do, so we should have done it ourselves.”
Still, Roberts and Peters continued to date on and off until 2019, when they parted ways for good after seven years together.
The “Scream Queens” alum opened up about her and Peters’ breakup and how “nobody knows the real story” about their relationship in a candid conversation with Cosmopolitan in May 2019.
“I think no matter who you are, what you do, or where you are in the world, it’s hard when it ends,” she told the magazine. “It’s hard to lose something.”
Roberts went on to say, “Growing up is hard. Sometimes it’s sad when you don’t have private time…There’s this whole other element of Twitter and Instagram where everyone can comment on what you’re doing, but no one really knows. That’s difficult.”
Peters was rumored to have broken up with Natalie Engel, but they reportedly broke up last year.
As for Roberts, she has since married actor Kodi John. The two announced their engagement in July 2024 after dating for two years.
