Cassie Lang is returning to Avengers: Doomsday.
Kathryn Newton announced on Instagram Friday that she is one of half of the SAG-AFTRA members appearing in Marvel’s next big superhero extravaganza. The actress, who was last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumia, returns to help the MCU gang save the world from Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr. in villain mode). Newton jokingly revealed her return on social media after opening a box containing a director’s chair with her name on the back and the movie’s logo on the front. This is a sly nod to how Marvel announced all the heroes and villains returning for the long-awaited sequel.
“[It’s]small because Cassie Lang is small,” exclaims Newton.
Perhaps Cassie will follow in the small footsteps of her father, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd). In fact, Ali was already out of the bag, as the trailer Marvel premiered at CinemaCon on Thursday included a shot of Scott/Ant-Man kissing his daughter on the head.
Kathy will have many friends. In addition to the father, other heroes and villains will return, including Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Shang-Chi (Sim Liu), Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Gambit (Channing Tatum). Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, will return to direct the sequel.
Newton most recently appeared in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Griffin in Summer, and Lisa Frankenstein. She will be the third person to play Cassie Lang. Abbie Ryder Fortson played her childhood in Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), and Emma Fuhrman played the teenage Cassie in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
