Common Wealth, a documentary exploring alternatives to our current economic and political systems, was filmed in eight countries and will be released in cinemas in Australia and New Zealand on June 23. Madman Entertainment will release the film through its Garage Films division.
The project is the debut documentary of screenwriter, director, and presenter Cain Guglielmi, who depicts his personal journey through the journey of a conservatively raised capitalist seeking greater prosperity beyond the model in which he was raised. Guglielmi produced the film through his company Darkwood Entertainment. Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave also stars. From day one, Guglielmi will embark on a promotional tour that will visit more than 30 cities in Australia and New Zealand.
“As we approach the fourth year of this global journey, I have to admit that the timing of this ultimate theatrical release feels pretty eerie. What seemed like a somewhat distantly relevant subject in 2022 seems to have suddenly moved to the forefront of the majority’s minds. It’s definitely divine intervention,” Guglielmi said.
The film deals with themes such as housing insecurity, cost of living pressures, political divisions, and global conflict.
“Given the global nature of Common Wealth and its timely and poignant themes, my ambition is to take this film beyond Australia’s borders to audiences around the world. This film deeply connects and inspires people from all walks of life. In times of such turmoil and division, people are desperately looking for reasons to be hopeful and positive for the future,” Guglielmi said.
Guglielmi sold a spec script, “The Groundbreaker,” a 19th-century work starring Irish immigrant John MacKay.
