Award-winning actor and producer Daniel Brooks launches a new video podcast, The InnerMission.
The Grammy Award-winner and Oscar-, Emmy- and Tony-nominated actor will be interviewing guests in her home movie theater, with the goal of “pausing and digging deep into the beautiful, troubling, and necessary moments when life forces us to close the curtains.”
“It’s all about investing in yourself. I’ve always known that my passion and skill set far exceed performance, and starting this podcast is my way of honoring those deeper desires,” Brooks told Variety. “This is a reminder that you are the author of your own life story. If it’s something you want to do, go for it. I have so much to share and so much more to learn. I want my listeners to grow with me.”
“Harlem” and “Reasonable Doubt” star Meagan Good and Grammy Award winner Ludacris will be Brooks’ first guests on the show.
“My hope is that these conversations give people a little more patience with their timing,” Brooks added. “While we are all focused on achieving the next milestone, there is so much beauty in the process. Life always takes wild, unpredictable turns, but we hope you leave each episode feeling deeply inspired through the raw, honest stories our guests bring to the table.”
“The InnerMission” debuts on Tuesday, June 30th on YouTube, Spotify, Apple, and other podcast platforms. Brooks produces the podcast series through MahoganyBee Productions. The creative team also includes SadeKay Productions and Camille Dobbins-Jackson.
Brooks is best known for her performance in the feature film and Broadway version of The Color Purple, for which she was nominated for an Oscar and a Tony Award, respectively. She also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. In television, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her role as Mahalia Jackson in Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia and won a Screen Actors Guild Actor Award for her role as part of the ensemble cast in Orange Is the New Black.
She will next star in the indie feature film “If I Go, Will They Miss Me?,” which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and the Netflix action comedy “Bad Day,” co-starring Cameron Diaz. She also returns opposite Jack Black and Jason Momoa in “A Minecraft Movie Squared,” the sequel to Warner Bros. and Legendary’s blockbuster live-action adventure “A Minecraft Movie,” which ultimately grossed $960 million worldwide. Brooks will star in and executive produce American Comfort, a comedy series inspired by the life of restaurateur Melba Wilson. The project is in development in collaboration with Apple TV, Kenya Barris, Oprah Winfrey and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
