Colman Domingo slams Elon Musk’s AI-generated Odyssey project.
“Historically accurate means whiter than Christmas at Cracker Barrel,” Domingo joked during his stint as guest host on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday night. “Of course, this is all because Elon and his musketeers are upset about the diverse casting of The Odyssey.”
Domingo focused much of his opening monologue on Musk, who vowed to use his AI tool, Grok, to “produce a feature-length version of ‘The Odyssey’ by the end of the year that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.” Musk also shared a three-minute clip of an AI-generated scene based on a poem created by a Grok user.
Domingo went on to say, “I don’t want to get technical here, but you can’t make a historically accurate version of something that’s completely fabricated.”
The Oscar-nominated actor is the latest in the industry to mock Musk’s recent crusade against Nolan adaptations. Earlier this week, Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson directly addressed Musk in X, tweeting, “Apparently @ElonMusk knows nothing about movies and stopped reading books in his 20s.”
Musk had been slamming Nolan’s The Odyssey long before its release due to what he perceived as certain “woke” casting decisions. In March, the tech mogul criticized the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, writing, “Chris Nolan is an anti-white racist,” saying “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity,” and calling the casting an “insult” to Homer.
