“The Matrix” and “Sense8” co-creator Lilly Wachowski has joined the cast of “The Day Before,” an indie sci-fi short written, directed and starring Alexandra Gray.
Gray leads an ensemble cast that includes Matthew Law (Nemesis, Abbott Elementary), Jamie Clayton (Sense8, Hellraiser) and Alexander David Pleasant (Abbott Elementary).
Set on the eve of NASA’s most ambitious space mission, “The Day Before” follows Dr. Erin Washington (Gray), the first astronaut selected for the historic one-way journey to Mars. As the world celebrates her accomplishments, Erin spends her last days on Earth with her husband Marcus (Law) and young son Noah (Pleasant), knowing she will never return home.
Clayton plays news anchor Caroline Shaw (Clayton), who sits down with Erin for her final television interview. The short was recently completed in Los Angeles and is being prepared for a festival premiere in 2027.
The Day Before will be produced by Gray under the Bishop Street Productions banner, along with two-time Emmy Award-nominated producer Zachary Drucker (The Stroll, Transparent), Jonathan Olson, and Student Academy Award-winning producer Iraida Cetinkaya.
In addition to the Wachowskis, executive producers include Jalen Jones, Grafton Doyle and John Reyes Doyle of Equites Productions, and Bambi Salcedo, president and CEO of TransLatin@ Coalition.
Gray is a writer, director, and actress whose credits include Empire, How to Get Away with Murder, MacGyver, The Resident, and The Alienist. She is repped by Zero Gravity Management, GVA Talent Agency, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Rezcano.
Law currently stars in Netflix’s “Nemesis” and is repped by Buchwald and AVG Management. Mr. Clayton is represented by Neon Kite and Toczek Suddleson Law Group. Pleasant is repped by Daniel Hoff Agency and Top Ten Talent Entertainment.
