Colin Gosselin will reveal “the shocking side of his picture-perfect family” in a shocking memoir this fall.
Jon and Kate Gosselin’s son’s revealing book, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, is scheduled to hit bookshelves on October 13th.
The book’s description, shared by the publisher on Tuesday, promises to share “the never-before-told story of how[Colin]escaped and found his way back from the darkness.”
The statement continued: “This is a reckoning with the dark side of fame: the systems, entourages and institutions that allowed one boy to be wiped out.”
In the text, the 22-year-old will revisit “the basement where he was held captive and hid for years, and where he was forced to administer a powerful cocktail of anti-psychotic drugs to an 11-year-old boy.”
The announcement also teased “Christmas morning, when the presents were collected as soon as the cameras stopped.”
It is noteworthy that the cover features an old photo of Kate, 51, with her hand over Colin’s mouth.
In addition to Colin, Kate and John, 49, are the parents of his sextuplet siblings (Arden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah) and 25-year-old twins Carla and Madeline.
Their family appeared on the TLC reality show ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ from 2007 to 2017, which was renamed ‘Kate Plus 8’ after the couple’s divorce.
The following year, John was granted sole custody of Colin, and later Hannah was sent to live with her father.
Since then, Colin has repeatedly made headlines for accusing his mother of “child abuse and exploitation” before being zip-tied and locked in a basement and institutionalized.
Kate has repeatedly denied allegations of child abuse.
Meanwhile, Madeline defended her mother in 2023, accusing Colin of “physical violence” and “hate speech”, a claim denied by her brother and father.
Collin told Us Weekly on Tuesday that while her childhood was “broadcast to millions of people,” “a lot of[what happened]was intentionally hidden.”
“In the end, I’ll share what was really going on behind the scenes. This book is about truth, survival, resilience, and finding your voice after years of being silenced,” he told the outlet.
“If my story can help just one person feel less alone or give them the courage to talk about themselves, then every difficult page is worth writing,” Colin continued.
He elaborated that he had previously kept his experiences private, explaining, “I was scared. … I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And … I wasn’t ready.”
He added, “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the most difficult moments in my life, but it also gave me something I had been searching for for a long time: my own voice. This is not the story people think they know. This is the story I have lived.”
While John proudly posted a pre-order link for the book via his Instagram Stories, Kate has yet to post about the upcoming release on social media.
Representatives for John and Kate did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
