Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman is leaving the show, Variety has confirmed.
Following Newman’s departure, series co-executive producer Victor Teran has been promoted to executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming 15th season of the NBC drama.
“Working on Chicago Fire with the best cast and crew in the industry was a career highlight,” Newman said. “Like many others, I got into writing for television because of Dick, so it was a real thrill to work with him and the amazing Wolf team of Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill and Anastasia Paglisi. I’m so grateful to them, to Derek Haas, and to the executives at NBC and Universal who have supported the show all along. After 14 years, you guys have really become a family and you always feel like you’re at home when you work with this group. ”
Newman has been a mainstay of Chicago Fire since its inception. She originally joined the show as a writer and co-executive producer in its first season in 2012. She rose through the ranks to become executive producer and eventually co-showrunner in 2021, before taking over sole leadership of the show in 2023.
“We are sad to say goodbye to Andrea,” said series executive producer Peter Jankowski. “She has been a central character on Chicago Fire since the beginning, and the show has grown under her watch.” “We are grateful for her commitment to developing the next generation, and we know that having Victor at the reins will make a huge difference to our program.”
Teran originally joined Season 10 of “Chicago Fire.” Previously, he was vice president of physical production for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, where he also produced, wrote, and directed independent films, including Sundance Dramatic Competition selection “Philly Brown,” starring Gina Rodriguez and Edward James Olmos, and SXSW competition selection “Snap.”
He is repped by Verve.
All three One Chicago shows were renewed in March. All three shows remain highly rated in NBC’s primetime lineup even after their late start. They continue to anchor NBC’s Wednesday night schedule, airing back-to-back.
Deadline first reported Newman’s departure.
