Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has claimed that the reason she won’t be returning to the hit Netflix series is because she wasn’t called back.
The actress also said in an interview on Collider’s “Ladies Night” podcast posted Saturday that she didn’t leave the popular show voluntarily.
“I just want to say I didn’t receive any calls,” Dynevor, 30, told the publication. “And when I get that call, I’ll be there as much as I can.”
“When the first season came out, they didn’t know what they needed to introduce,” she explained.
“So I think in a way we were like people who got away,” she said of herself and former costar Regé-Jean Page. “But like the rest of us, I can only speak for myself, but if you ask me, I’ll always come back.”
Dynevor, who moved on from her Bridgerton start and has since landed some big roles, went on to express her gratitude for the role the show played in her career, saying that all she “always wanted to do” was “to have the opportunity to do something different.”
“Suddenly I realized I had the opportunity to play different women,” she said. “And that’s all I’ve ever wanted in my career.”
Dynevor appeared as Daphne Bridgerton in the premiere season of Bridgerton, which was released in December 2020. This installment followed Daphne’s fictional love story with Simon (Page), a very eligible bachelor at the time.
Subsequent seasons added members of the Bridgerton family to find love with promising suitors.
Dynevor appeared briefly in season 2, but has not returned to the show since then. Her former scene partner also previously confirmed that he would not be returning to the show.
In 2022, Page shared a photo of herself walking side-by-side with former co-star Jonathan Bailey during a trip to Italy, telling her followers that she would “not be returning to the show.”
“Bridgerton” executive producer Shonda Rhimes addressed Page’s departure in a 2021 interview, calling the decision “really wise.”
“Of course he said, ‘I signed on to do this lovely story, this closed-ended storyline. I’m fine!'” she told Variety at the time.
“I don’t blame him for that. I think he was really smart to leave the perfect perfect.”
