Tommy DeCarlo, lead singer of the rock band Boston, has died. He was 60 years old.

DeCarlo’s wife Annie and children Talia and Tommy Jr. confirmed DeCarlo’s death in a Facebook post shared Monday.

“It is with sadness that we share the passing of our father, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9, 2026,” the statement began.

“After being diagnosed with a brain tumor last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage until the end.

Tommy DeCarlo (shown above performing in Clearwater, Florida, June 2012) passed away on March 9th at the age of 60.

“During this difficult time, we ask that our friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support each other,” DeCarlo’s family continued. “Rest in peace, Dad.”

Before Mr. DeCarlo passed away, his loved ones set up a GoFundMe to help cover his medical expenses. As of Monday afternoon, more than $56,000 had been raised.

The GoFundMe revealed that in September, DeCarlo suffered a brain bleed and underwent emergency craniotomy, during which doctors discovered two melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lung.

“He surprised us by recovering from surgery and starting treatment, but before the surgery was complete he suffered another brain bleed and was hospitalized from November 27th to December 27th,” Page said.

On January 2, DeCarlo’s family issued an update on his health, revealing that he was able to return home from the hospital the day after Christmas.

“Physical therapy was not easy, but our father was strong, determined and a true warrior,” the family wrote on Instagram. “He has made incredible progress through visits from his family and loved ones and the overwhelming prayers and well wishes from everyone.”

The family also said DeCarlo plans to begin treatment that “targets the remaining cells in his brain,” noting that DeCarlo still has a “long way to go.”

DeCarlo joined Boston after Boston’s original lead singer, Brad Delp, died by suicide in 2007.

Some of the group’s biggest hits include “More Than a Feeling,” “Piece of Mind,” “Don’t Look Back,” “Amanda” and “Rock and Roll Band.”

Current members of the band include guitarist Gary Pill, bassist Tracy Ferry, drummer Jeff Neal, and vocalist Beth Cohen.

In 2021, DeCarlo released an audiobook, “Unlikely Rockstar — The Tommy DeCarlo Story,” chronicling his life, including his travels in Boston.
