The CBS soap opera “Beyond the Gates” has been renewed for two more seasons and will run through the 2027-2028 broadcast season.
The network revealed the news at CBS’ fall schedule announcement press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Created by Michel Valjean, “Beyond the Gates” launches in 2025 and is the first new daytime soap opera to debut on a major TV network since 1999’s “Passion.” It was also the first daytime soap opera to feature a primarily African-American cast since “Generations,” which aired on NBC from 1989 to 1991.
The show is produced in collaboration with the NAACP in a content partnership with CBS and P&G Prods. Paramount TV Chairman George Cheeks said CBS has extended its first-look agreement with the NAACP and Sheila Ducksworth will continue to run the business. “They are still developing the project with us,” he said. “However, we have nothing to announce other than to say that we have received an order for two seasons of Beyond the Gates.”
“Beyond the Gates” follows the Dupree family behind the gates of a fictional gated community located in a leafy Maryland suburb outside of Washington, DC.
Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis play the matriarch and matriarch Anita Dupree and Vernon Dupree, and their children Nicole and Daniel are played by Daphne Dupree and Carla Mosley, respectively. The cast also includes Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Gibre Hoges, Jen Jacob, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, Ronnirose Mantilla, Anvir Michel, Kolby Muhammad, and Ariel Prepetit.
Looking back on soap operas in 2025, Aramide Tinubu, Variety magazine’s chief television critic, said, “While soap operas are not considered high-end programming, this new show offers viewers a unique experience that is better than over-the-top storylines or sleazy romances. At a time when minority-driven dramas are disappearing from the small screen and the current government is violently attacking diversity, equity, and inclusion, ‘Beyond the Gate’ is a reminder of blackness and brownness.” Colors cannot be erased. ”
During Wednesday’s event, CBS announced its entire fall 2026-2027 primetime schedule. This includes a new New York-based “NCIS” spinoff starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan, as well as previously announced new series “Cupertino,” “Einstein” and “Eternally Yours.”
