Banijay Germany, in collaboration with French immersive producer Lotchi, creator of “Luminiscence” and part of Banijay Live, brings the immersive experience “Luminiscence” to St. Michael’s Church in Hamburg.

Hamburg will become the third city in Germany to host the experience, after Münster and Nuremberg, which will premiere on July 2 and transform landmarks into “impressive landscapes of light, sound and history,” Banijay said.

Since its launch in 2023, Luminescence has attracted more than one million visitors worldwide, presenting immersive productions in the world’s most beautiful cathedrals, churches, and historic buildings in eight countries, including France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Brazil, and the United States. “Luminiscence” has been performed in more than 20 cities, and there are currently nine productions.

While maintaining its core business of television content, Banijay Group has diversified into live events and sports in recent years with great success. The Live Experiences and Other segment increased by 18.2% to €397 million ($465 million) from €336 million ($393 million) last year.

St. Michaelis’ Luminescence will feature state-of-the-art 360° projection technology, innovative lighting effects, original compositions, live music, and organ music from a regional ensemble of conductors, organists, and choirs. Singer Lucia Duchořová and organists Magne H. Dragen and Paul Fasan will be featured.

Banijay Germany Ingrid Langheld, CEO of Live, said: “‘Luminescence’ has proven its ability to engage audiences across cultures and bring history to life using technology and music. Its continued expansion in Germany is a testament to the strength of Roch’s creative concept and its ability to bring history to life through the use of technology and music. “Bringing Luminescence to St. Michaelis is a milestone in our German journey and a great example of how collaboration can drive growth and business diversification.”

St Michael’s Senior Pastor Alexander Roeder said: “Through this project, our bright and airy Baroque church will be revealed in a unique way, and St Michael’s and its eventful history will be beautifully brought to life for our audience through light, music and narration.”

François de Brugada, chief executive officer of Banijay Live, said: “When Roch joined Banijay Live, ‘Luminescence’ had already proven its concept in four French cathedrals.A year later, the show was released by Banijay Entertainment. It has been successfully staged in Europe, the UK, the US and Brazil with the help of a top-notch network of local talent. St. Michaelis of Hamburg combines Luminescence’s bold creative and technical vision with Banijay Germany’s outstanding local expertise.

St. Michaelis’ “Luminiscence” is produced by Banijay Germany Live and Cape Cross.
