The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival has announced the full jury list for the Golden Cup Awards across five competition categories. The festival will run from June 12th to 21st, 2026.
Singaporean director Anthony Chen, whose debut feature film “Iro Iro” won the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013, will head the Asian New Talent jury. Indonesian director and screenwriter Kamila Andini, whose drama “Uni” won the Platform Award at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, also joined the panel. Liu Jiaying is a Chinese director and screenwriter known for “Oxhide” (2005) and “Oxhide II” (2009). Kazakh director and screenwriter Farkat Sharipov, winner of the Berlin Prize for “Schema.” and Taiwanese actor Wen Chi, a Golden Horse Award winner for “The Bold, the Corrupt, and the Beautiful.”
The competition’s main jury, chaired by Hong Kong film legend Tony Leung Chiu-wai, includes six members from around the world. Chinese director Guan Fu, whose Black Dog (2024) won the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival, is a central figure in North African cinema, alongside Tunisian producer Dora Bouscha, who has championed emerging filmmakers in the Arab world for decades. Georgian writer and director Der Kulumbegashvili, whose debut feature The Beginning swept four awards at San Sebastian 2020 and whose sequel April premiered in competition at Venice 2024 , will co-star with Mexican filmmaker Fernanda Valadez, who won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at Sundance 2020 for the border drama “Identifying Features” and also directed her second feature, “Sujo.” Kyrgyz film director Akhtan Alim Kubat, whose films Besikenpil (1998), The Thief of Light (2010) and Centaur (2017) were widely screened at international film festivals, was joined by Chinese actress Xin Zhilei, who won the Venice Best Actress Award for The Sun Also Rises, to complete the panel.
American filmmaker Gita Gandobil, Oscar-nominated for “Perfect Neighbors” and “The Devil’s Busy,” will serve as the head of the documentary jury, and Peruvian director and editor Carla Gutiérrez, whose documentary “Frida” (2024) premiered at Sundance and won the editing award, and actor Liu Qing (“Perfect World”) will serve as the jury members.
British director and animator Will Boettcher, who was nominated for an Oscar for “Shaun the Sheep”, will head the animation jury along with Indian director Gitanjali Rao, who created the hand-drawn animation “Bombay Rose,” which opened the 2019 Venice International Film Critics Week, and Chinese director and screenwriter Yu Shui (“Nobody”).
The short film jury will be headed by Portuguese director João Salavisa, who won the Palme d’Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for his short film “Arena” and the Golden Bear for “Rafa” at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival. The film will be directed by German director and illustrator Lena von Dehlen (“Tumpel”) and Chinese director and screenwriter Qiu Sheng, whose “Father and Son” won Outstanding Artistic Achievement at last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival.
