Does The Devil’s Bride Wear Prada?
Anna Wintour’s daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cordry Schaefer gave eagle-eyed fashion fans a sense of déjà vu when she arrived on the red carpet at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York on Monday wearing a tea-length Prada dress studded with red and blue abstract floral patterns.
As Instagram account @wintourdrobe pointed out, Ms. Shafer’s beige frock previously belonged to Ms. Wintour, 76, who wore the same dress to the Frontotemporal Degeneration Society’s Hope Rising Benefit at the Pierre Hotel in 2019.
“Used Prada is better than nothing!” the account captioned a side-by-side photo of the two women wearing matching looks, with Schafer wearing metallic sandals and Wintour accessorizing with a brown leather belt and statement necklace.
Schaefer married Wintour’s son Charles Schaefer at the Vogue editor-in-chief’s Long Island mansion in 2014 after they met at Oxford University. they have two daughters.
Recycled Prada was a fitting choice for an evening centered around a fashion franchise inseparable from Wintour’s own heritage. Condé Nast, chief content officer and inspiration for Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, has been building on the relationship for the sequel, from filming gag scenes to interviewing Streep for Vogue.
For the premiere, Wintour opted for another archival piece, Prada’s spring 2016 custom striped dress, while her daughter Bea Carrozzini attended Valentino Resort 2026.
But Schaefer’s hand-me-down Prada might have been the night’s biggest flex. Because who needs a stylist when fashion’s most exclusive closet is just an invitation to Sunday dinner?
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” will be released nationwide on May 1st.
