Alicia Vikander is set to co-star with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the Netflix TV series “Enigma Variations,” Variety has confirmed.
The show was originally reported to be coming to Netflix in January 2025 and was scheduled to go to series in March 2026, starring Taylor-Johnson. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Andre Aciman, author of “Call Me By Your Name.”
The official logline states that the show follows Paul, “a man reshaped by his lovers, who inspire and undo him through a decade of change. This is an intimate yet comprehensive portrait of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love, and in a world of endless choices, we ask the question: When will we find ourselves?”
Vikander plays Claire, the woman Paul marries in the novel.
Vikander won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl. She is also known for appearing in films such as “Ex Machina,” “The Man from UNCLE,” “The Green Knight,” “Tomb Raider,” and “Irma Vep.”
She is repped by UTA and Actors in Scandinavia.
Amanda Kate Schuman will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Oliver Hermanus is the director and executive producer. Media Res is the studio, with Michael Ellenberg, Christina Malak and Lindsey Springer serving as executive producers on behalf of the company. Aciman will also serve as executive producer alongside Monica Levinson.
Media Res’ current lineup includes Apple TV+ shows “The Morning Show” and “Pachinko.” It also has several upcoming series in production, including Apple TV’s “The Dealer,” starring Jessica Chastain and Adam Driver, and Damon Lindelof’s HBO series “The Chain.”
