Authorities investigating Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are closing in on the “porch man” who was seen on the missing 84-year-old’s security camera, a former FBI agent says.
Maureen O’Connell told listeners of “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Tuesday that authorities are “75%” certain they are “close” to the person seen on Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s porch the night she disappeared.
Mr O’Connell predicted that “the floodgates will open” if that person is taken into custody.
Megyn Kelly responded, “That’s big news. That’s a big deal — as the kids say, a big deal if it’s true.”
O’Connell did not provide further details about his allegations, which he received through a source, saying authorities were “close to closing this case.”
But she cryptically said, “Something is going on.”
Regarding the fact that it took more than five months to make an arrest, O’Connell said, “No matter who takes it, the greatest defense attorney in the world is going to be in charge of this case. So we have to operate under the assumption that a large portion of the evidence may be destroyed.”
Nancy was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in the middle of the night on February 1st.
Ten days later, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department released footage of a masked and armed man on Nancy’s porch.
Chilling footage showed the person appearing to tamper with the doorbell’s camera.
Savannah, 54, described the “absolutely horrifying” video as “unbearable to watch” in her first sit-down interview about her family’s tragedy in March.
“I can’t imagine that that was the person she saw standing on the bed. It’s impossible,” the journalist told colleague Hoda Kotb. “I wake up in the middle of the night every night and imagine her fear in the dark. And it’s unthinkable, but those thoughts need to be thought.”
Savannah admits that Nancy may already be “gone” and continues to plead for her mother to return.
Just recently, she tearfully told viewers of the “Today” show about her “suffering” and said, “We can’t feel safe until[we find her]…Please do the right thing.”
The NBC personality also addressed recent reports that a seemingly credible ransom note allegedly alerted authorities to Nancy’s untimely death.
Messages from the same IP address previously described the patriarch as “safe but scary.”
Savannah said she had “no comment” and stressed that she was “not involved” in the network’s reporting on her missing mother.
