The Bobby Bones caused even more controversy by admitting that they “cheated” their Season 27 victory.
“I was fooled and they gave you a limited amount of time with your partner. Four hours a day, they say,” he explained Monday on Jason Taltic’s “Trade Secrets” podcast.
“So we do four things: record sessions, rent a studio and train ourselves.
Radio Host 45 “Never Danced” before the show revealed that he was “as surprised as everyone else” when it came to the 2018 victory between him and his professional partner Charna Burgess, which was self-proclaimed “fish out of the water.”
The Bones scored lower than the other three finalists (Miromanheim, Evanna Lynch and Alexis Lenn) through the competition, but brought home the Mirror Ball Trophy thanks to overwhelming votes from viewers.
“I was never polarized on the show other than smoking,” he said. I tried as hard as I could and I got eight of them a few times. ”
Looking back, the “Bobby Cast” host says his victory is controversial among “a small section of hardcore fans.”
“The fact that I was winning made it difficult for people who were constantly watching the show. …I was anxious and nervous every week as a crap.
However, Superfans weren’t the only ones who received the backlash after the bone won. In August 2024, former “DWTS” pro and Judge Julian Huff said he shouldn’t win because he “is not the best dancer.”
The musician returned to Huff’s Diss on social media and called himself “the biggest champion.”
“I was the worst dancer, and I’m proud of it,” he said in a video shared on Instagram at the time. “Now I tried as hard as anyone in the history of the show, but now I can’t dance (and) at the time.”
“We did it together. I’m the best champion of all time. I was the best dancer, but I didn’t say I was a great champion because I’m a man of people. I’m the guy you guys have chosen.
The host of “Bobby Bones Show” noted that “DWTS” producers changed voting rules for the upcoming season after the victory.
“I’m a terrible dancer, I was a terrible dancer,” he repeated. “But the fans voted so well, they changed the rules after I left.”
The new rules allowed viewers to vote only if the show was live and the fans banned each newsweek from voting on the first episode of any season.
Despite the intense criticism he received for the victory, Bones told Taltic that he “loved” his time at the ABC dance competition.
“I have friends who sometimes go to (dwts),” he shared. “And I still have a friend who is still a show dancer. The pros. Sharna was amazing. She was really tough, but that was necessary.”
“DWTS” Season 34 begins on Tuesday, September 16th at ABC and Disney+. Here, viewers compete for the coveted Lenggoodman Mirror Ball Trophy, a new star-studded cast.
