Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil revealed that he suffered a stroke about sleeping at Christmas, leaving him to “learn how to walk again.”
“The whole left side of my body came out,” Rockstar shared in a Las Vegas Review Journal interview published Friday.
“I had to learn to walk again. That was tough,” Neal continued. “The doctors said they didn’t think I could go back to the stage again.
In March, the band announced that they would postpone their Las Vegas residency as Neil was expected to “take medical procedures.” However, at the time they did not disclose any further details.
“Motley cancelled the first part of (residency) and was able to get me better,” he told the outlet.
Neil spent several months in physical therapy at his home in Nashville, where he lived with his longtime girlfriend, Rain Hannah Andreani.
“I went to the bathroom from the people carrying me, because I couldn’t walk myself, so I ended up in a wheelchair,” recalls Neal.
“I graduated to pedestrians, and then I had a cane. I don’t need anything now. But it’s like a full-time job to get you back to where you feel good again.”
The 64-year-old rocker has been able to work with his local soccer coach to run through ladder agility drills and several other trainings, allowing him to manipulate him again with his normal abilities.
However, “it takes time for your brain to start moving your legs to do what your brain wants to do. You try to walk, but it’s not coming out correctly,” he pointed out.
The “Home Sweet Home” hitmaker admits he has “a lot” of training and has since “learned how to run again.”
“It was tough, but I’m back. I’m 90, 95% in my previous location, and that’s going to be great,” he said.
Instead of the group’s original plans from March to April, the residency begins on Friday and runs until October 3rd.
Neil’s stroke occurred nearly two months after his girlfriend was seriously injured in a plane crash at Scottsdale Airport.
Andreani was on the Motley Crew singer’s private jet when he lost control and crashed into a parked plane.
“The rain has broken six ribs. The cracked vertebrae still hurt her. That’s what she’s dealing with,” Neal added in the update. “But she’s back on the horse. She’s always on the ride.”
