“Morning Show” star Reese Witherspoon female TV creators thrilled

The cast and creators of “Morning Show” raided the red carpet in New York on Tuesday night to celebrate the fourth season of Apple TV+ Show.

Speaking on the carpet of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the team behind the show addressed the topic of AI that plays a role in the storyline of Season 4.

“I learned a lot about AI this season,” executive producer and director Mimi Leder told Variety. “What I learned was that we can never replace human connections with human minds.”

Mark Duplas, who has played Chip Black on the show since season 1, said “something has to give” in relation to the entertainment industry and AI.

“I’m looking at AI and wondering if it could democratize technology and make this a really cool and interesting action sequence for someone in West Virginia. “But there are some issues when using it to mix movies in an automated way, rather than hiring three guys who are using it.”

Variety also asked people attending about recent research at San Diego State University. This found that the percentage of female creators on streaming was a record high of 36%. Given the history of “morning show” in which women play leadership roles in front of and behind the camera, the show’s team was delighted to hear the news.

“I think it’s very encouraging,” said Reese Witherspoon, the series star and executive producer. “It means that every advancement and every push actually paid off. The women’s stories are important, they are important, and we see them reflected in the market.”

Leder reflected that sentiment, adding that she and showrunner Charlotte Stoudt emphasized that he would hire “mainly female directors.”

“We have a token guy or two. People always see Charlotte and me, and a group of women running the show, but we don’t sit there and say, ‘We’re the women running the show!” We are just filmmakers and storytellers,” she said. “That’s a big theme this season. Can women make it better? If you’re given the key to power, be careful of what you want. Do you really want it? And be careful how you shake it. It’s a slippery slope.”
