Ayo Edebili’s response to being ruled out of the troubling interview questions directed at Andrew Garfield and Julia Roberts went viral.
The trio talked about their film for an interview with Italian outlet ArtsLife TV when film journalist Federica Polidoro asked about the moves of #MeToo and Black Lives Matter.
Polidro specifically asked two “what to expect in Hollywood after the #MeToo movement and Black Lives Matter.”
Garfield immediately turned his body to his co-stars, laughing uncomfortably. Roberts also looked incredible when he asked Polidro, “Can you do that again? We put on our sunglasses and don’t know which of us you’re talking about.”
But Polidoro said, “The question was for Julia and Andrew. Now, with the #MeToo era and the black life issues (movement) taking place, what should we expect in Hollywood?
Edebili asked the question with a visibly shocked expression, and immediately answered.
“Yeah, I know that’s not the case for me. I don’t know if that’s the purpose for me, but I’m just curious and I don’t think it’s over.
“I think the hashtags may not be used that much, but I think the work done by activists is done every day. Every day, it’s a beautiful, important job that’s not finished.
Garfield and Roberts agreed that the 29-year-old “Bear” star continued to answer questions.
“There may not be any mainstream coverage that could have had daily headlines in a way that could have been around eight years ago, but I don’t think that means work has been done. That’s what I say,” she said.
After Polidoro faced a fierce backlash online to rule out Edebiri, the journalist shared a lengthy statement on Instagram.
“I would like to clarify that rather than focusing on the thoughtful responses of Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield. “All contributions from the attendees were fully reported in public interviews, but no omissions.”
She also argued that she was not racist, saying that her own family was “multi-ethnic, patriarchal, feminist and has an important history of immigration.”
Italian journalists added that she reserves the right to “seek legal protection” against those who attack and humiliate online.
Directed by Luca Guadagnino, “After the Hunt” stars Roberts, who has won Roberts among sexual abuse accusations, including one of his students (Edebiri) and a colleague (Garfield).
The psychological thriller is scheduled to be released on October 10th.
