Channing Tatum knows the talent when he sees it.
His new film Roofman had his world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 6th. There, the 45-year-old actor spoke to people about his sense of pinch as he works on a film with Kirsten Dunst.
Sharing Dunst’s personal favorite film was a 1994 hit interview with the Vampire, Tatum said, “I couldn’t imagine she did what she did with that film in the era.”
“Everything she’s done so far, I’m obsessed,” Tatum added Dunst 43.

Tatum praises Dunst’s decades of cinematography, but he acknowledges that it made it a little more difficult to work together in one particular way.
“I was very scared to work with her, and when I said I was threatened, I was scared. I just wanted her to like me,” the magical microphone actor says with a laugh. “I love me!”
Based on a true story, Roofman is about Jeffrey Manchester (Tatum). “A former Army Ranger, he cuts a hole in the roof to steal McDonald’s restaurant and becomes the father who steals him by acquiring the nickname: Roofman.”
“After fleeing prison, he secretly lives in the toy “R” for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move,” the summary adds.

“However, when he falls into his divorced mother Lee (Dunst), attracted by his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, causing a fascinating and suspense game of cats and mice as his past closes.”
The cast also includes Ben Mendelshorn, Lakes Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Adva, Lily Collius, Jimmy O. Yang and Peter Dinklege. Roofman is directed by Derek Cianfrance.
In June, Tatum previewed the film and spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the pressure to portray real people on screen.
“It’s impossible to tell someone’s true life story in 90 minutes,” he said at the time. “I’ve only played two other real people in my life, but that’s not very comfortable. I feel a lot of pressure. It gets muddy.”
Roofman will be in the theater on October 10th.
