Director Fede Alvarez won’t return

Fede Alvarez, who revitalized the “Alien” franchise on the big screen last year alongside “Alien: Romulus,” will not return for the sequel, he revealed.

Talking to Toofab, Alvarez said he would remain as a producer of the sequel to “Alien: Romulus,” but he and franchise creator Ridley Scott look for a new director.

“In fact, I completed the script for the sequel to “Romulus.” But as a director I’m going to give this a torch,” he told Toofab. “We’re going to produce it with Ridley Scott. We’re going to produce it together and we’re going to find a new filmmaker right now.”

Scott directed the original classic “Alien” in 1979 and handed the reins to James Cameron for the beloved sequel “Alien” in 1986. The franchise directed David Fincher for 1992’s “Alien 3” and Jean Pierre Genett for “Alien Resurrection” for “Alien Resurrection.” Anti-predators: Requiem each. Scott returned in the 2010s for the prequels of “Prometheus” and “Alien: The Contract.”

“It’s usually what happened except Ridley. The filmmakers come, you make it and pass the baton to the next baton,” Alvarez said. “But we wrote the story because we really love what started out with ‘Romulus’ and want to continue the story. We love stories and now we just want to find a director who wants to go to the jugular vein. ”

“Alien: Romulus” was a hit with both critics and fans as the first “Alien” film since the 2017 “The Contract.” It earned $351 million at the global box office. Alvarez revealed earlier this summer that he was pre-produced in a sequel and that filming is expected to begin in October. Currently, “Alien” has taken over TV with Noah Hawley’s FX/Hulu series “Alien: Earth.”
