Steve Carell and John Krasinski may not appear in “Paper,” but the two actors crashed the set of “Office” spinoffs on the first day of filming to wish the cast good fortune.
When “The Paper” star Sabrina Impacciatore told Entertainment Weekly she and her co-stars Domhnall Gleeson and Chelsea Frei were in a makeup trailer at Universal Studios Lot in Los Angeles when several surprise guests visited.
“We don’t have any makeup yet. We’re very worried. Ah, my God, we’re so scared. And we’ll hear the knock, knock,” Impatchatol said. “Someone comes into the trailer and it’s Steve Carell and John Krasinski! We’re fainting.
Carell and Krasinski happened to be in the studio lot that day, filming a commercial for the Italian coffee brand next door, Lavazza. “I thought this was a blessing. Italian coffee is the coffee I’ve been drinking forever,” said Impatchator, an Italian actor who broke out after playing her role in the second season of the Sicilian set in “The White Lotus.”
Impacciatore said Carell and Krasinski, who played Michael Scott and Jim Halpert in “The Office,” stopped by the set of “The Paper” and wished the cast the best of luck on the first day.
It wasn’t the first time Impacciatore had met Carell. She had never seen “The Office” before riding on Peacock’s derivative, “The Paper,” so she bites a workplace comedy before she began making it. She became “addicted” to the show and told EW that “Steve Carell has become the person I loved.” So, when she learns that Carrel is starring in the Broadway production of “Uncle Vanya,” Impatch Ator decides to fly from Rome to New York to see the physical actor. She asked Greg Daniels, co-creator of “Paper” and “Office” showrunner, “I think he’s one of the most incredible artists on this planet.”
“I bought a damn flight,” Impatchatol said. “I went to see the show. I went to the green room. I was waiting for him. He came out. I was shaking. “I’m Sabrina! Would you congratulate me?” I needed his blessing.
“He was giving me confidence,” Impatchatol added. “I will never forget it. Never. I was so right to do it.”
In “The Paper,” Impacciatore plays the editor in the struggled Midwest newspaper. When the enthusiastic new editor-in-chief arrives, she and a group of ragtag staff are tasked with breathing new lives to Toledo Truth Terror. The series also stars Melvin Greg, Gvemisora Ikumero, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key and “The Office” favourite Oscar Nunez, revising the role of Oscar Martinez.
All 10 episodes of the series will be dropped on Peacock on September 4th.
