Sony and Netflix are speaking about sequels

It appears that a Hunt/X reunion tour is ongoing. Sony and Netflix will be discussing early with the sequel to “Kpop Demon Hunters” following the animation feature, which became a streaming mega-hit in the summer.

Earlier on Tuesday, “KPOP Demon Hunters” overtook “Red Notification” on Netflix’s all-time charts, making it the most watched film in the service’s history with over 236 million views. The film’s original soundtrack notched four songs at the Billboard Top 10 at the same time. This was the first time that happened in the history of The Hot 100.

The “KPOP Demon Hunters” phenomenon became a very supernova, prompting Netflix to infiltrate from theatrical evasion principles to give animated films a release sung in over 1,700 North American theatres. Even with a special screening for just two days, “KPOP Demon Hunters” surpassed domestic box office revenue during the penultimate weekend of August, surpassing studio summer holdovers like “Weapons” and “Freakier Friday.”

Netflix continues to explore ways to take advantage of the runaway success of features created by Sony under the studio’s licensing agreement. (Note: “KPOP Demon Hunters” was the first film made under the contract of the first vision for a film Sony was planning to stream.) As Netflix prepares to launch in-person shopping destinations in both Philadelphia and Dallas ahead of the holiday season, the company is building “KPOP Demon Hunters.”

In an interview with Variety, co-director of “KPOP Demon Hunters” Maggie Kang (who led the project with Chris Appelhans) raised hopes for the sequel, especially by expanding the history of fellow group members Zoey and Mira, beyond Huntr/X’s lead vocalist Rumi.

“We set up so many things for potential backstories. Obviously there are a lot of questions left unanswered and there are areas that are not explored. “This is a Rumi story, and we have a Zoe and Mira backstory. It’s something we actually put in the film, but I kind of rejected it. It wasn’t a film in those stories.”

Pack first reported that Sony returned for a sequel to negotiate with Kang and Aperhan.
