Lauren Lefran is the first to be hired at a newly launched production company.
Lefranc, who served as a showrunner on the hit HBO series The Penguin, attracted Rachel Jacobs and headed TV and film for Acid and Tender Productions. Variety exclusively reported in early August that Lefranc was rolling up her new production banner under a comprehensive deal with HBO and HBO Max.
“I’m pleased to be a part of Lauren in Acid and Tender Productions,” Jacobs said. “I admire her perspective and her approach to business. Her desire for the company is bold and artist-driven. That’s exactly what I want to support.”
Jacobs was previously a senior vice president of film and television for Borderless Pictures, during which she developed projects with writers like Gina Welch and Will Arberry. Jacobs originally began his publishing career at Penguin Random House before attending the Stephen Zarian film ritual. Since then, she has worked on shows like HBO’s “The Night of” and features like “Bad Education.” She also worked for the Sundance Institute and Sight Unseen Pictures.
When “The Penguin” was launched in September 2024, it proved to be a hit with both audiences and critics. The show received 24 Emmy Award nominations in the limited series of Colin Farrell, Christine Milioti and Diel Druo Connell, including Best Limited Series and Best Actor, Actress and Supporting Actresses. “The Penguin” was the second Emmy nomination for this year’s program, after only the Apple TV+ series “Severance.”
