Katie Holmes is openly single. The actress has been linked to several famous men in the past, including her Dawson’s Creek co-stars Joshua Jackson and Jamie Foxx. Holmes was married only once, to Tom Cruise. They divorced in 2012.
Katie Holmes was just 19 years old when she shot to stardom on the incredibly popular teen drama Dawson’s Creek. Throughout the early ’80s, Holmes’ celebrity made her love life an object of fascination, especially with its unexpected twists and turns. However, by the 2010s, Holmes seemed focused on living a quiet life for her daughter, Suri.
Holmes said in 2017, “My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is now a top priority for my work.” “It’s very important that I exist and that she has a stable and innocent childhood. I feel very blessed to be doing what I do, but there is nothing in this world better than seeing my child succeed.”
Holmes is now quite private about his personal life, keeping most of his love affairs a secret. But here’s what we know about her dating history so far.
joshua jackson
Holmes and her Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson had undeniable chemistry on the show, perhaps because the two met on set in 1997 and quickly hit it off off-screen. The two dated throughout the first season of filming. In a 1998 Rolling Stone interview, Holmes admitted, “I met someone last year. I fell in love. It was something so incredible and indescribable that I will always cherish it. He’s one of my best friends now, so I feel very lucky.”
She had hinted at Jackson, but they had already broken up at the time of the interview. There were six seasons in total, but thankfully the former couple remained close and friendly throughout. In fact, in April 2025, Jackson told Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the Dinners on Me podcast that he and Holmes remain “very close.”
“It’s not a daily call. Sometimes it’s not even weekly, monthly, or even semi-annual. But when you’re together, it’s always, A, I know,” Jackson said of his connections with his former co-stars, including Holmes. “And B, you know, these moments, the key moments in your life, there’s probably no other person in your life that you’ve been so trained for other than your husband, because you’ve had to go through the good, the bad, the happy, so I’m like, ‘Don’t have sex with me, don’t talk to me, and I love you.’
The two stars began working together in 2025, playing a couple on Holmes’ Happy Hour.
Chris Klein
In the early 2000s, American Pie actor Chris Klein and Holmes were everywhere. The two passed each other and began dating around 2002. They were even engaged, but broke up in 2005. Although he didn’t say why, Klein revealed in an interview with People magazine during their engagement that while he was living in Los Angeles, he was on the set of “Dawson’s Creek” in Wilmington, North Carolina.
“Obviously, we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like, but we’re trying to make the most of the limited time we have,” Klein said.
In a separate interview with Seventeen magazine, author Deb Baer asked Holmes if she ever dreamed about her wedding day for more information, to which she replied, “I knew I was going to marry Tom Cruise.”
It turned out to be an omen.

In early 2005, Holmes shocked fans by starting a seemingly sudden and tempestuous relationship with actor Tom Cruise. The two were engaged within two months and were expecting their daughter, Suri Cruise, by the end of the year. The couple married in November 2006, about seven months after Suri was born.
In a famous interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2005, Cruise jumped on the couch and declared, “I love Katie Holmes!” The actress came out last, apparently referencing answers from a previous interview. She reiterated that marrying him was her childhood dream, adding, “I’m glad I’m a big dreamer!”
After welcoming Suri, Holmes said in an October 2006 Vanity Fair cover story: “The moment the doctor handed me Suri, I was ready. It was an indescribable feeling. All I can say is, the moment I looked into her eyes, I felt like a mother.”
In a May 2012 interview with Playboy magazine, Cruise gushed about Holmes: “She’s an extraordinary person. When she walks into a room, you feel good.”
However, immediately after these statements, she filed for divorce. Holmes has not spoken publicly about their breakup, but it is alleged that she wanted to prevent Suri from taking an active role in the Church of Scientology, of which Cruise is also a member. “Did she say that? That was one of the allegations, yes,” Cruz responded to a question about the incident, according to ABC News.

Holmes dated actor Jamie Foxx for six years, but they denied their relationship and kept it a secret during the early stages of their relationship. Holmes had just gone through a very high-profile divorce and was raising a young daughter. In October 2013, Foxx denied rumors of their relationship to Entertainment Tonight, calling them “100 percent untrue.”
In 2015, a source told People that the two were indeed dating, but it was casual.
“This is not an intense romance,” a source said. “Jamie and Katie are long-time friends. They’re two attractive, single adults, so it’s obvious that a conclusion will be drawn. But contrary to that conclusion, they have no intention of running away and making a serious commitment.”
A source added: “[They]see each other and go out together, but Jamie says he’s not seriously involved with anyone.[He]is a workaholic and couldn’t be happier in his life.”
At the time, Holmes was based in New York City and Fox was living in Los Angeles. Their relationship seemed to heat up even more in the years that followed, and in May 2019, they skipped the red carpet and attended the Met Gala together in coordinated outfits. Then, in August 2019, it was reported that they had broken up. A source told Entertainment Tonight that the two “never had a typical relationship.”
“They’ve always been incredibly independent and their lives didn’t revolve around each other. They lived in different cities and would see each other from time to time,” the source said, adding that their relationship ended “due to obligations that forced them both to put their families, careers, and relationships on the back burner.”
A source told People magazine: “It was a natural progression. This industry is very tough on relationships. Jamie thinks Katie is a wonderful person. They had a very, very close bond. They brought each other a lot of joy and laughter.”
Emilio Vitolo Jr.
Holmes briefly dated chef Emilio Vitolo Jr. in September 2020. The two were spotted in Manhattan multiple times, but are said to have split in May 2021 by mutual consent.
A source told Us Weekly: “Their relationship has cooled down and they thought it would be better to remain friends. There was no drama over the breakup and in fact, they are still friends. Katy and Emilio really enjoyed their time together, but things just didn’t work out. She is focused on motherhood and her upcoming projects.”
Another source told People magazine: “There was no drama. It was great while it lasted, but they are in very different places in their lives. There are no hard feelings for Emilio. His life is in New York. Katy can’t wait to get back to work and travel again.”

According to Us Weekly, Holmes was spotted kissing during a date to the Guggenheim Museum in April 2022, sparking rumors that she was dating musician Bobby Wooten III. The following month, they attended The Moth’s 25th anniversary gala, the Silver Ball.
However, by December of that year they broke up.
“Katie and Bobby broke up last week. She no longer tells his friends about him,” a source told Us Weekly. “They just didn’t work out together in the long run.”
Jason Byrd Yarmosky
In July 2026, Holmes began collaborating with New York City-based artist Jason Byrd Yarmosky. On July 10, the two were pictured holding hands at the Cinema Society screening of The Invite in East Hampton. A source told People magazine that the two were “intimately affectionate” during the event.
A source said that Yarmosky was “whispering in her ear and she was laughing. They seemed very at ease and there was a smile on her face all night.”
The source added, “They sat together during the movie and at one point she rested her head on his shoulder. They looked so cute.”
Shortly after, the two stepped out to dinner in New York City, arm in arm. On July 22nd, a source confirmed that the two are definitely more than just friends. On July 24, the two made an official appearance at an event hosted by Ferragamo at the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. They wore subtly matching navy looks.
When asked about their matching styles, Holmes exclusively told ELLE, “I think we just have similar tastes.”
