Bret Michaels has revealed he underwent unexpected surgery after experiencing “extreme” pain from a kidney stone.
The Poison frontman, 63, shared an update via Facebook from his hospital bed on Wednesday, telling his followers he was “completely grateful” to the hospital staff who helped care for him this week.
Ms Michaels said she waited seven days but “the pain got so bad” that the stone “didn’t pass” and she was taken to hospital.
“The pain was intense, but as always, I played special private shows for veterans, active duty athletes and their families in Charleston, West Virginia, Grantville, Pennsylvania, and Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane,” he wrote, adding that he was hospitalized “immediately the next day” after appearing in Spokane.
“The surgery was successful and my post-op recovery is now complete. Once I am fully healthy, I am doing everything I can to feel better and continue to put on a great show for our amazing fans.”
Michaels then expanded on his previous “Wisdom Wednesday” lesson, saying he was “smart enough to know how important a role our family, friends, fans, doctors and nurses play in our daily health.”
The “Every Rose Has a Thorn” hitmaker will next take the stage in Belleville, Illinois on July 31 as part of a series of North American dates. Performances are scheduled until September.
Michaels was also previously scheduled to perform at President Trump’s “Freedom 250 Presents: Great American State Fair” concert series, which ran from June 25 to July 10.
However, on May 28, he canceled his performance, along with several other announced appearances, citing safety concerns and that the show had “devolved into something more polarizing” than he had signed up for.
“When this opportunity was first presented to my team, it was described as a celebration of our country through music and an opportunity to honor veterans, active duty military, first responders, teachers, and hardworking Americans from all walks of life,” Michaels wrote.
“As the son of a veteran and coming from a family that proudly served in the military, I am always honored to support it.”
“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something far more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,” he continued. “I have received concerns for the safety of my fans, band, crew, family and myself, including completely unfounded and unacceptable threats.”
