“Don’t Mess With My Man” singer Nivea revealed earlier this year that she was diagnosed with leukemia.
On Tuesday’s episode of “The Cadillac Chronicles,” the 44-year-old recording artist shared the news after being asked what he’s grateful for.
“First of all, I was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year, and I’m so thankful to God,” said Nivea, whose real name is Nivea B. Hamilton. “I’ve been undergoing treatment and so far everything is going well. And I expect it to stay that way. Amen, amen, amen.”
Despite battling cancer, the “Danger (Been So Long)” singer told host Brian Freeman that he was “so grateful for life.”
“It’s so cliché to say you don’t know time or time, but it’s true and it’s helped me see a lot of things objectively, and I live religiously, with gratitude, and I’m just grateful for everything,” Nivea continued.
According to the Mayo Clinic, leukemia is cancer of the body’s blood-forming tissues, such as the bone marrow and lymphatic system.
There are many types of leukemia, but Nivea does not specify what type of leukemia it is.
“I’m doing what I want to do,” she said. “I’m definitely coming back to my music and going to school for audio engineering. I’ve always wanted to learn how to do engineering, especially mixing engineering.”
Nivea stressed that she is still “doing everything” she wants to do, including “loving” her children.
The Grammy nominee was previously married to Terius “The Dream” Nash from 2004 to 2008.
The former couple have a daughter, Navy Thalia, 21, and twin sons, London and Christian, 20.
Nivea, who rose to fame in the early ’80s with a string of hit singles including “Don’t Mess With My Man,” “Laundromat” and “Okay,” also has a 16-year-old son, Neil, with Lil Wayne (real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.).
“And I just try to be grateful and seize every opportunity that comes my way,” Nivea exclaimed.
Fans immediately jumped into the comments section to share their admiration for Nivea.
One viewer wrote, “She is an amazing talent 🙌🏾💕,” while another added, “Thank you so much for releasing that masterpiece ❤️ We love you forever, Nivi ❤️❤️.”
In 2023, the hitmaker opened up about her family’s support during her pursuit of love on Peacock’s dating reality series Queen’s Court.
“I told Wayne about it, and he was like, ‘Wow, do what you have to do. It’s going to be a great experience,'” Nivea told Page Six at the time.
“He just supported me,” she said of the 43-year-old rapper.
Meanwhile, The-Dream, 48, was thrilled to see Nivea shine on TV.
“The dream was like, ‘Wow, this is crazy. It’s going to make everyone laugh!'” the mother of four told us.
Furthermore, she added: “And they were very supportive. Like me, I thought, ‘You never know what’s going to come out of it, so why not do it?'”
