Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze are back on screen to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Point Break.
The new 4K restoration will be released by Resurgence Media Group, Saga Arts, and Fathom Entertainment. The film will be released in theaters on August 16th and 19th.
Ahead of the film, surfer Matt Archibald gives an exclusive introduction. Archibald, who also served as Swayze’s surf double, will help teach the two leads and other cast members how to surf and give behind-the-scenes stories about the production.
The film, first released in 1991, tells the story of a group of bank robbers who call themselves former presidents and wear the masks of Reagan, Carter, Nixon, and Johnson to commit crimes. The FBI suspects that the group may be surfers, so they send young agent Johnny Utah (Reeves) to the beach to interact with the surfers and gather information. He becomes drawn deeper into the world of charismatic surfer Bodhi (Swayze) and his world. Utah, a thrill-seeking crew member, must decide where his loyalties lie. ”
Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the film also stars Gary Busey, Lori Petty, John C. McGinley, James Legros, and Anthony Kiedis.
“Few movies have built a fan base as loyal as ‘Point Break,'” said Shana Miller, vice president of marketing for Fathom Entertainment. “Thirty-five years after its theatrical release, this newly restored 4K version provides exactly what its devoted fans have been looking for: Bodhi, Johnny Utah and those legendary surfing and skydiving scenes are back on the big screen where they belong.”
