Former Miss Universe Jamaica finalist LaToya Malcolm has passed away. She was 35 years old.
The organization announced her tragic death via Instagram on Saturday.
“We mourn the loss of LaToya Malcolm, a MUJ graduate who proudly competed in the Miss Universe Jamaica 2024 pageant,” the post reads. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest in peace, LaToya. You will never be forgotten.”
Miss Universe Jamaica’s Instagram account did not reveal any further details. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Upon hearing the news, many of Malcolm’s fans expressed their sadness in the comments section.
“She was such an amazing person. She was a breath of fresh air when I met and worked with her in 2024,” one person wrote.
“She was so full of light and always had fun. I still don’t understand how this is possible. My condolences to her family and friends 🕊️,” another posted.
Malcolm competed in the Miss Universe Jamaica 2024 pageant and later held the title of Miss Jamaica Bikini International 2024.
According to Miss Universe Jamaica’s Instagram account, she is a Jamaican-based actor and entertainer with over 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer about winning the Miss Jamaica Bikini International 2024 title, Malcolm told the magazine how she was able to dedicate her time and effort to training for the competition despite the death of her father earlier that year.
“My beloved father, Mr. Malcolm, this victory was yours. Your only daughter remains proud of you. I know you are smiling down on me from heaven 🕊️💙,” she wrote in the caption of a post sharing the interview.
“Thank you for the continued love and support from my friends and family ❤️🙏🏽”
