Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Adam Driver has repeatedly turned down offers to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years.
“It’s no secret that we want to work with[Adam],” Feige responded. “But it’s a tradition to talk to him on Zoom and then he passes away. It’s a long-standing tradition. He couldn’t be more genuine. He’s usually honest about how he feels.”
Driver has already appeared in one Hollywood megaseries, having played Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in three Star Wars films, so it’s no wonder he’s very cautious when it comes to adding the MCU to his filmography. Rumors are currently circulating on social media that the Oscar nominee is being courted to play Magneto in the Marvel X-Men reboot. Studio president Kevin Feige said on a podcast that no casting options have been finalized for “X-Men” at this time. He also did not say what role the driver had taken on.
If Driver had had his way, he would have remained in the Star Wars universe with The Hunt for Ben Solo. The actor revealed to The Associated Press last fall that he worked with director Steven Soderbergh to develop a sequel film centered around the fan-favorite character, but Disney executives killed the film.
“I’ve always wanted to do Star Wars again,” Driver said at the time. “We’ve been talking about doing the next one since 2021. Kathleen[Kennedy]contacted me. I always said, ‘If you have a great director and a great story, it’s going to happen.'” I loved that character and loved playing him. ”
Driver continued, “We submitted the script to Lucasfilm and they loved the idea. They completely understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t understand how Ben Solo lived. That was it.”
