She changed the line “I wrote some songs about Ricky/Now I listen and laugh” in the original poem to “I wrote some songs about Ricky/We always find our way back.”
Grande is relatively recently single. In June, news broke that she and Ethan Slater had quietly split “a few months” ago. She and Alvarez, a backup dancer who dated from 2015 to 2016, were spotted having lunch together for the first time on June 26, her birthday. “They’ve been hanging out a lot lately,” a source told People magazine that day.
Over the Fourth of July weekend, they were photographed heading out to a Whole Foods in Boca Raton, Florida, together. On July 7, a source spoke to People magazine in more detail about the pair’s relationship, although at the time they did not say the two were dating.
“She’s having a great time on tour and loves having her closest friends join her for part of the tour,” the source said. “Ricky has always been a friend and a confidant. She really trusts him. He has such great, positive energy and makes her laugh. And she enjoys spending time with him.”
A source said Grande is “doing extremely well.”

Grande revised the lyrics to “Thank U, Next” about Alvarez three times during the tour. On her birthday show on June 26, she sang, “I wrote some songs about Ricky/I know he still has my back.”
At a concert two days ago, Grande tweaked the lyrics for the first time, singing, “I wrote some songs about Ricky/Still they kind of slap.”
This is Grande’s first rumored romance since her split from Ethan Slater.
