Illumination, the company behind hits such as Minions and the Sing series, has released a trailer for its new alien-themed animated film Not Alone, starring Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez.
Chalamet will make his animation debut in the film, voicing Joe, an “introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life by himself,” while Gomez will play Fran, “a brilliant astrobotanist who is developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket.”
According to the official synopsis: “When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the first launch of this revolutionary rocket, sparks quickly fly, but neither of them are particularly good at love. Three small, unruly, adorable aliens arrive at Joe’s home Life becomes even more complicated when Dunk, Welly, and Schirm are on an interplanetary run from an eager but incompetent lawman named Xandro, who determines that Fran’s rocket could provide them with a safe return home.
The aliens Dunk, Welly, and Silm will be voiced by British comedy actors Rob Brydon (Barbie, The Trip), Diane Morgan (Cank On, Mandy), and Jamie Demetriou (Cruella, Jay Kelly), while Officer Xandro will be voiced by Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein. The film’s supporting cast includes Allison Janney (Minions & Monsters, The Diplomat) and Lamorne Morris (Fargo, Spider-Noir).
“Not Alone” is co-directed by Eric Guyon of Illumination, co-director of “Despicable Me 3” and designer of “Despicable Me” and “Minions.” Claire Dodgson, editor of The Lorax and Minions; and Jonathan Del Val, co-director of Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Secret Life of Pets 2.
The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and executive produced by Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld.
“Not Alone” is produced by Illumination and Universal Pictures and is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 16, 2027.
