actor. comedian. producer. Underwear model?
Will Ferrell is the unlikely star of Skims’ new campaign. Rather, it’s his athlete alter ego.
The 58-year-old Emmy winner stars as aging professional golfer Ronnie Hawkins in the upcoming Netflix show The Hawk, and boldly sheds his character’s toned white skin to promote his latest project.
Skims’ Instagram account on Monday shared six images of Hawkins wearing skibs with the caption, “@LonnieTheHawk knows he still gets it.” (This fictional golfer’s account already has more than 70,000 followers.)
In the photo, Ferrell’s character models the brand’s men’s briefs, along with a tank top, tube socks, his signature “Hawk” visor, and a puka shell necklace.
Skims co-founder Kim Kardashian also narrated a corresponding video spot in which Ferrell’s character appears on a golf course wearing skivvies.
“His body says he’s retired. His Skims say he’s got one round left,” deadpans Kardashian, calling Skims “built for guys who know they can still beat them.”
Ferrell and Kardashian teased their collaboration on Instagram a few weeks ago, with the reality icon teaching the athlete how to take the perfect selfie.
The caption of their joint upload reads: “My name is Ronnie Hawkins. This is an Instagram post. Please comment when you post it. Thanks Kim for helping me post it. Does this work? Can others see it? Comment below if you can see this post. Please use all caps.”
Ferrell joins a long list of famous stars for the Skims campaign. Nelly Furtado, Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, Cardi B and Charli XCX are among the many celebrities who have posed for Kardashian’s company in the past.
And while Skims’ men’s line hasn’t been around that long, Usher and Post Malone have also appeared in past ads.
“The Hawk” will be released on Netflix on July 16th.
