Rosie O’Donnell said during her recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” that she would be happy to guest host “The View” if invited.
O’Donnell was asked by an audience member if he saw former host Elisabeth Hasselbeck return as a guest on “The View” and if she would do so again. O’Donnell responded, “I got her (on ‘The View’) and she was going to be a guest host, but they didn’t ask me. So we’ll see what happens, but, well, listen, it’s interesting. I think in the age of Trump, she’s the perfect person that they want to spout rhetoric on TV.”
Host Andy Cohen then asked O’Donnell, “Are you still annoyed that the director went split-screen?”, referring to his controversial on-camera altercation with Hasselbeck in 2007. O’Donnell jokingly retorted, “Yeah, I’m still annoyed. Trust me, mom knows how to hold a grudge.”
O’Donnell first joined “The View” in 2007 as a co-host, but left after one season. As Cohen noted, her first appearance on the talk show produced by Barbara Walters concluded with a heated on-air debate with Hasselbeck about the Iraq War. O’Donnell returned to “The View” in 2015, but abruptly left five months into his 11-month contract with ABC. She later told “Entertainment Tonight” that she left the show to focus on her family following her divorce from Michelle Rounds.
“Stress is very bad for heart attack survivors,” O’Donnell said in a YouTube video at the time. “You need to minimize stress, get maximum exercise, and control your diet. That’s what you need for a healthy heart. That’s why I’m doing it. I’m minimizing stress by quitting ‘The View.'”
