Jelly Roll’s $20 million fortune could be at risk after he filed for divorce from his wife of nearly 10 years, Bunny Zaw.
“Both parties can be exposed when it comes to asset division,” divorce attorney Isaiah Vallejo-Juste, who does not represent either party, exclusively told Page Six. “However, the extent of exposure will depend on whether the assets they own are marital assets and subject to distribution.”
According to divorce documents, Jelly Roll wants the couple to reach an agreement on the division of their assets and debts, but it is unclear whether they have a prenuptial agreement in place.
“If the parties are going to reach an agreement, they need to do it together,” the RVJ partner explained. “Divorce can certainly be messy if there are disagreements about how things should be divided, but it’s the lawyer’s job to clean up the mess and get it over with.”
Asked if Bunny Zoe’s role in building her husband’s music career during their marriage could be factored into the financial settlement, Vallejo-Juste said: “Yes, it is possible.”
“If there is a prenuptial agreement, the court may base its judgment on it. However, the court may consider a wide range of factors in determining the appropriate classification of property,” Law Eagle said.
“Generally speaking, property acquired during the marriage is considered marital property and may be subject to distribution,” Vallejo-Juste continued. “That does not necessarily mean that the property will be divided 50-50, and if disagreements arise, these issues can become the subject of substantial litigation between the parties.”
For this reason, lawyers said a prenuptial agreement is usually recommended for such parties. Without a prenuptial agreement, royalties, intellectual property, publishing rights, and other similar assets may be considered marital property.
“The property may be subject to appraisal, in which case an experienced divorce attorney will need to work with the artist’s other attorneys and accountants to develop a creative settlement proposal that resolves the issue in a favorable manner for the client,” Vallejo-Juste said.
The 41-year-old “Wild Ones” singer’s net worth is reported to be $20 million, while the 46-year-old Bunny’s net worth is estimated to be around $7 million.
The country music star, whose real name is Jason Bradley Deford, filed for divorce from the host of the “Dumb Blonde” podcast on May 18, Page Six confirmed on Tuesday.
According to divorce documents, the two officially separated on May 8th.
The couple, who had been living separately, married in August 2016, a year after they met at Jelly Roll’s Las Vegas show.
After just two years of marriage, the two broke up after Jelly Roll cheated on Bunny. However, the two found their way back together and often discussed the ups and downs of their marriage on Bunny’s podcast.
Jelly Roll, a recovering addict who is on a weight loss journey, has two children from a previous relationship, daughter Bailey Ann, 18, and son Noah Buddy, 9.
Before their separation, the former sex worker and Jerry were trying to have a baby through in vitro fertilization.
